Baby Zantac

Over the past few nights Grayson has been getting continually more and more fussy during the nights. He's been on a consistent schedule of getting up just once in the night, but that drastically changed. During the weekend he began getting up 2-3 times. Then Sunday night happened...

the longest stretch of sleep he (and I) got was an hour. An hour! Sometimes he would wake after only 10 minutes. Sometimes 30. I was back in newborn survival mode. Not fun...for anyone (sorry family!).

I called the nurse advice line for our pediatrician, and she concluded that the combination of lots of spitting up, LOTS of fussiness and tears, and Grayson arching his back when I laid him in his crib sounded like acid reflux. We took him into the doctor yesterday afternoon. She concurred with the acid reflux diagnosis, and sent us home with a prescription for baby Zantac. After a full day on the medication, tilting his crib mattress and spending lots of time patting his back, he's sleeping much better but definitely isn't back to normal. He is still getting up several times during the night and is very fussy during the day. We're supposed to keep giving him the medicine for a week or two and see if there is any improvement. (By the way, the medicine is mint flavored so of course Grayson hates it. The face he makes when we give him the medicine is so awful that it's almost comical. Whoever decided to make baby medicine mint flavored was not thinking.)

These pictures are from his trip to the doctor's office. Even when he's uncomfortable and not feeling well he still has lots of smiles in him. The way he's pulling his legs into his chest is new. I'm not sure if it's because he's discovering his knees and feet, or if it's because it feels good on his gassy tummy. Sweet baby!
