It's Been A Big Week

There have been some big changes in our house this week. We had to say goodbye to the beloved exesaucer. Our sweet friends who loaned it to us need it for their little girl, so of course I had to get few pictures of G playing in it for nostalgic purposes.
Just about every morning Grayson would hang out in the exesaucer next to me while I ate breakfast. He was thrilled with the animals noises (although he was cautious about the lion's roar at first). He learned to turn pages on the book, and loved making faces at himself in the mirror. And of course EVERYTHING went in his mouth. He would rock back and forth, spin in circles and wildly kick his feet from all the fun he was having.
Grayson has also been working diligently on growing his two teeth. :) It's tough work gnawing on everything he can get his hands on!
G also had his first finger foods this week. He wasn't too sure about the avocado pieces I put on his tray at first, but he soon got the hang of it. Most of the time the food ends up all of his bib, clothes and seat. It's the first time he's ever felt anything squishy in his hands, so he loves to grab onto the food and squeeze it between his fingers. (Somehow the reflection of the tray is giving him a 5 o'clock shadow. I didn't have time for photo editing this week...so the whiskers will have to stay. :)).
This is the sight I see most times when I get Grayson up from a nap. He has learned to pull down the bumper so he can be on the look out for me. He's also learning to push himself up, so I think it might be a good time to lower the crib mattress!
Last weekend Grayson had a bit of a bug. We took him into the doctor for a check up, but of course he was just fine and dandy by the time we got there! He LOVES watching himself dance in front of the mirror there.
On Saturday we celebrated the life of my grandpa, Papa Dick. He passed away last month after battling Alzheimer's for many years. It was good to see friends and family, and to spend time remembering what a special man he was. He had a heart for kids, and loved nothing more to make us laugh. He created special games for us at Christmas, helped hide the eggs for our Easter egg hunt, wasn't afraid to get creamed with a super soaker at the 4th of July water fight (or douse you with a bucket of water in return!). He let us decorate his hair with bows, crawled on the ground in our forts, gave us ice cream and candy at every opportunity, and was always genuinely interested in what we had to say.Towards the end of his life, he didn't remember who most of us were and he couldn't communicate very much. However, he was still able to "talk" with Grayson. He would grab onto G's hands and gibber jabber with him soon eliciting a smile and a giggle. Two days before Papa passed I took Grayson to visit him at the family home he was being cared for in. At that point Papa had been sleeping most of the time, and when he was awake he was mostly unresponsive. I walked to the end of his bed and leaned in to say hello. Immediately Papa's eyes locked on mine, and then he looked to Grayson. Papa Dick's eyes lit up, a smile spread across his face and his hands raised very so slightly beckoning Grayson to him. It was a very special moment that I will never forget. That ended up being the last coherent action Papa would make. I will look forward to telling Grayson about that moment. I love you Papa Dick.
