A Little Man Themed Baby Shower

My sweet sister is expecting her first baby...a baby boy named Christian James. My mom and I threw a shower for her and baby Christian at my parent's house. It was a little man theme, full of mustaches, manly food and bow ties. As guests arrived, they were invited to "wet your whiskers" with a drink.
Every time they took a sip, the mustache was raised to their nose.

The first photo of the little man.

My sis and Christian. We hung the welcome sign made on a chalkboard at the front door.

Love her! (Note: I have on really tall heels and she has on flats.)

Ties were cut from scrapbook paper for a welcome sign.

Grayson allowed us to use his blocks for the decor. We had a few "little man" sayings around the house.

My gift to Katelyn was a slew of burp cloths I made with the softest fabric ever imaginable. I tied them in the middle with ribbon to make them look like bow ties, but it didn't quite give the look I wanted so I added paper bow ties on the front. We used them as a garland hung from the fireplace mantle.

The dessert table was one to write home about. There were several cake stands filled with amazingly delicious cupcakes, then we added various "manly" decor using items handed down from the men in our family. From books, to my grandpa's pocket watch, my great-grandpa's cuff links, to silly ties that belong to my dad. It added a fun and personal touch to the table. We also had mobiles hanging from the light fixture.

I made bow ties and glued them onto toothpicks for the cupcake toppers. So simple to make, and they looked great.

Once everyone had arrived, we asked the guests to have a seat for our first game. We had them get into pairs and handed them a plate with mini marshmallows, toothpicks and a fun size Baby Ruth candy bar. They had 3 minutes to "Build a Bed for Baby Ruth". The only rule was that the candy bar had to be elevated, and then Katelyn chose the winner based on creativity. It was a riot to see what the teams came up with and how they tried to sell their creations to Katelyn.

The second game was also a hit. I had wrapped a gift in many layers, and on each layer was a question. Whoever could answer the question got to take off the next layer. For example one layer said, "Christian will be Katelyn and Kerry's first baby. Who here has the most kids?". Whoever had the most kids was passed the gift to remove another layer. Whoever happened to take off the last layer got to keep the prize. This is a fun game for any event because you cane simply tailor the questions to fit the theme.
Ruffled crepe paper streamers hung in the kitchen over the food table.

The smorgasbord. The food was delicious! I think everyone went back for seconds (and maybe thirds!) We had Manly Mac and Cheese, Beefy Sliders, Bow Tie Pasta Salad and Fruit Kabobs. I later thought we should have named the fruit kabobs "Fruit Swords" to make them more manly.

There are those fabric bow ties again.

A neck tie adorned the flower vase.

While guests ate their food, Katelyn opened all of her gifts. She certainly was showered with love that day! Then we asked a dear family friend to say a prayer for Katelyn and Christian. She was also the one who prayed for Grayson and I at my own baby shower. It was a very special moment.

As the guests left we asked them to take a tie. Each tie was for a different prayer request that covered Katelyn, Kerry and Christian in prayer.

What a special day of blessing for Katelyn and Christian.
