After opening up gifts, Adam and I snuck away for a drive through the snow without the kids. We didn't really even know where we wanted to go, but we just started driving.
We ended up over by Adam's old high school to look at the snow/ice cravings that a man does in his yard every year. This year he carved Mary, Joseph, Jesus and lots of angels. It's beautiful.
I loved my little mini-date with Adam.
Christmas cuddles with Grandma.
Our little sandwich making chef.
Both of the kids loved trying out their new gifts. Grayson was making sandwiches to order all evening, and Makenna loved tummy time on her new pillow.
It is really important to me that our family keeps the focus of this busy season on Christ. After all, He is the reason we're celebrating! We had asked Stan and Joan if we could include a birthday celebration while we were in Alaska. They of course said yes, so Grayson and I got to planning the party. I told him that he could choose how we would celebrate.
We had cake. Funfetti. Delicious. Adam and I used to make this cake in college and devour it. I ate a lot of this one too.
We sang "Happy Birthday" to Jesus, and then G blew out the candle.
When I asked Grayson what party games he wanted to play, he said cars and stickers. I don't have pictures, but we all grabbed a match box car and then raced them around the kitchen. Oh how I wish there was a video of that!
Next, we all sat at the table armed with paper and stickers. We all decorated with stickers. I loved seeing grown men work so seriously in their sticker decorations.
This kid loves his uncle and auntie. I told them that they are going to be experts by the time they have kids! They are just so natural in how they care for our kids.
We left Makenna at home with Stan and Joan, and took Grayson out on a special sledding adventure at the school across the street. We got him bundled up to brave the cold and set out. He loved it! It was a big hill too.
Adam would run down the hill with him holding onto the sled rope. Then they traipsed back up the hill for another run.
We stayed out until we were all cold and G'd cheeks were pink. Then we went to the end of an open gym at Adam's high school. He had fun showing Grayson his old stomping grounds.
Another day we all took Grayson to a place called Bouncin' Bears which was a room filled with bounce house toys. Fun! He had no fear at all! He scrambled to the top of tall slides and came flying down.
Little Miss M. She was such a trooper on this trip. She just came all over the place with us and kept a sweet smile on her face. She slept great while we were there, but did nearly all of her sleeping in the car seat...even when we were at home. We just couldn't get her to sleep in the pack and play. Before coming on the trip, she'd been getting pretty good about sleeping almost all the time in the crib. We took a step back, but at least she slept well in the car seat!
Lunch at Roadrunner. The boys sat at their own table. I'm told Grayson devoured everything he could get his hands on. :)
The Lewis Family.
This is not the greatest picture, but I want to capture the moment. My kids cuddling while watching M'd first Gonzaga game. Adam and I were both proud of this moment. :)
Our first trip as a family of four was a success and so much fun! Merry Christmas!
