It has become a yearly tradition for our family to spend the last week of July and the first week of August at the cabin. Adam usually comes and goes a bit, but the kids and I stay the entire time. There is nothing quite as relaxing as spending time on the shores of the lake.
While we were there, wildfires were raging all around the area. The biggest plume of smoke came from a fire that was nearly completely contained! We watched the plume change with the wind each day.
We usually have a few extended family members stop by here and there. Grandma Dorothy and Uncle Carl came for a visit. I'm not sure who gets more excited about his visits...Uncle Carl or the kids!
It's hard to get Grandma to let me take a picture of her, and that makes this one even more special! I love it!
My little man was a fish on this trip! We spent nearly every day of the two weeks playing in the water or digging on the beach. He put his swimming lesson skills into practice as he swam, dunked his head in the water and jumped off of the dock. Makenna was all too confident in her swimming skills. She would jump in even if you weren't ready, squirmed from my arms to get into the water to swim and would lay on her tummy in the shallow water kicking her legs saying "Swim!! Swim!!".
All of the smoke made for some beautiful sunsets.
My dad was determined to have us float the river this year. In all these years of having the cabin it's hard to believe that we've never done it! He bought deluxe inner tubes. The kids loved testing them out and pretending they were floating out to sea.
Adam and I were actually the only ones who were able to get out onto the river. My parents watched the kids so we could go for a float on our anniversary. Nine years! It was a lot of fun. The only scary part was when we had to bail from our tubes in order to swim as fast as we could to shore at the pick up point! Oh...and the time that Adam made me go straight through the fastest rapid we came across during our two hour float!
This little man really wanted to try floating the river, but we told him he would have to wait a few more years. He settled for lounging in the tube on the deck and the lake.
Showing off his ever growing muscles.
Enjoying one of the many amazing sunsets.
We walked down to the State Park to play on the playground a couple of times. It's a fun activity especially on really windy days that keep us off the beach.
Adam joined us for the second week of the vacation. The kids were immediately climbing all over him when he arrived!
We were surrounded by a thunder and lightening storm which was fun to watch, but unfortunately started a new fire that night.
The Days came up for the second week as well. It has been so much fun to watch the friendship grow between my kids and Christian. They truly love each other so very much!
We went on a couple hikes during our stay. This one was up Nason Ridge. Grayson doesn't look like he's having fun, but he actually did quite well on this hike.
The other hike we went on was up to Hidden Lake which is at the very end of Lake Wenatchee. It is a beautiful hike, and at the end we are rewarded with a gorgeous lake and picturesque views.
My mom, Makenna and I stayed on shore, but Adam and Grayson jumped in for a swim!
The third hike we did was along the river. Again...pure beauty.
This hike was with the Days and our family. It was a very hot day, and by the end of the hike we ALL decided to wade into the river. We found a perfect sandy beach with a calm swimming hole. Makenna and Christian ended up skinny dipping! They all had so much fun!
As always, this was a highlight of our summer. We relaxed, we played and we had so much fun!
That picture with the lightening is so great! How cool you were able to catch it on "film"!!
ReplyDeleteThose fires were devastating but so glad y'all had a great vacay!
