I was expecting a call on Tuesday morning around 7am to let me know that Tommy was on his way over to our house with Erin's mom. Robin would be dropping him off so she could join Erin at the hospital where she was scheduled to be induced. That was what I was expecting.
What I wasn't expecting was a call at 3:00 am from Robin telling me that Erin was already at the hospital because she'd gone into labor naturally, and they had left without giving her the right set of car keys. In a daze, I raced over to their house to pick up both her and a very sleepy Tommy. We then hustled over to the hospital so she could help take care of Erin.
Back home we went. Tommy and I were both pretty much up from that point with a few short sleeps here and there. When Tommy and I went into G's room once he woke up, Grayson was immediately giddy with excitement. His best bud was at his house...it was sure to be a great day! They just spent the morning making each other giggle. It's pretty adorable to watch.
We got a call at 8:00 am from Erin saying she'd had the baby! A sweet baby boy named Christian James Hickey. So we soon hopped in the car and were on our way to reunite this now family of four.
The boys were laughing in the car, dancing and holding hands. I thought this was very sweet, especially since we've been talking a lot with Grayson about being gentle and not pinching or poking others. He stopped himself once by saying, "Keep hands to self" and another time he said, "Gentle touch". I'm so glad to know he's listening to what we're saying.
Silly boys...still holding hands.
Christian James. Both he and Mama were doing amazingly well.
Tommy got a big brother gift to play with. It was a Thomas the Train play mat with mini trains. The boys were glued to it after gulping down some juice and graham crackers.
Grayson had trouble with hoarding the trains. Sharing is another area we're currently working on.
I felt so honored to have been a part in such a special day for this family.
Congratulations Tommy, Erin and Steven! Welcome to the world Christian!
