A Baby Is Born!

December 16th will forever hold a special place in my heart. It was the day I became an aunt.

My sister ended up needing an emergency c-section due to some complications at the end of her pregnancy. She called with the news on the 15th. While she tried to keep her blood pressure down by resting, my mom and I went out to purchase all of the last items needed for bringing baby home. By the end of the evening I think we were all wiped out.

The next day, the 16th, Grayson and I went to the hospital where we met up with the mommy and daddy-to-be and several other family members. I was blown away by the calmness that seemed to exude from Katelyn.

Eating through the stash of snacks I'd brought along, and running around with Nana.

Grayson took the opportunity to hug her belly and sing "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star" to the baby.

Within no time at all, it was time for Katelyn to be whisked away for surgery.

We went to wait in her room. Don't worry we found ways to entertain ourselves...

We talked to my mom first. She had gone into the operating room and filled us in on how everything went.
Katelyn returned to her recovery room, and Christian was taken to the NICU. I was devestated to learn that Adam and I wouldn't be able to go in since we were just getting over a cold, and Grayson couldn't because he's not old enough. Bummer.

I spent some time with Katelyn over the next few days, and I was thrilled when I was able to finally join them in the NICU to meet Christian for the first time.

What a miracle this little guy is. Over the next two weeks he spent time learning to breathe on his own, eat on his own, and spent a little time working on his tan.

There was a great play area outside of the NICU where Grayson played while I spent time inside. Kerry came out one day to watch a few videos with G.

Several days later we were able to hold him for the first time. He felt so tiny and precious in my arms. God is so good. What a miracle life is. "For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother's womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well." Psalm 139: 13-14

After two weeks of sleeping at the hospital or commuting from home in the wee hours, I know Katelyn and Kerry couldn't wait to bring their sweet babe home. Christian passed all of the tests with flying colors, and finally it was time to go home!
