Easter was special this year in our family because this was the first year that Grayson was starting to understand what it is all about. In the weeks leading up to Easter, I've been having a lot of conversations about it with Grayson. He understands the general idea that Easter is about Jesus dying and coming back to life. He's been asking a lot of questions about why Jesus died and how Jesus can live in our heart, and what about heaven. It's a concept that hard for adults to understand, let alone explain it to a three year old! Ha!
During these conversations Grayson has been asking some of the most sweet, innocent questions. One day when talking about heaven, Grayson asked if Jesus would play with him and take him for walks. Another day when talking about what it means to ask Jesus to live in your heart, he said, "Can he cuddle with me in there?". Oh my sweet boy.
Makenna and I woke early on Easter with the intention of making it to the early service, but she was sick with her first ear infection and needed extra sleep that morning. When Grayson finally did get up he rushed into my room and said, "He is risen!!". We made it to the 10:00 service, but little miss kept me in and out of the sermon since I couldn't put her in the nursery. After church we went to my parent's house for a party with my Dad's side of the family.
Easter Family Photo.
Neither of my kids look too thrilled to be having their picture taken. :)
My mom took the kids to get Easter outfits since that was what her Nana did when she was a girl. Makenna's dress was beautiful, and Grayson was most excited about his shoes. He's wanted shoes with laces ("ties"), but I haven't wanted to re-tie them a dozen times a day. The bright red ones we found have elastic ties that he LOVES. He shows them to everyone. He also will stop randomly, touch the ties while saying "tie, tie". He's pretending to tie his laces just like he sees Daddy do all the time.
My love and I.
My sister and Christian were there, but Kerry was in Africa for a mission trip. Christian looked very dapper in his newsboy cap and bow tie.
Look at that sweet face!
The new shoes.
I almost didn't get these pictures because Adam had just told Grayson that there was a snake trying to find him. He believes everything his Daddy says...for better or worse.
Grayson loves his sister, and she adores him. He wanted to take a picture with her, but had a little trouble turning his eyes away from the tv.
A couple pictures outside. Makenna did really good that day. Even with all the commotion of a full house, she still took a long nap and was full of smiles for everyone.
I love the way her eyes light up when she smiles.
Christian is very interested in Makenna or "Enna" as he's been calling her. He always wants to be near her or watching what she's doing.
It was a hot day, 70 degrees! A little too warm for the full ensemble, but Christian still looks studly in his onesie and bow tie.
Getting ready for the little kids egg hunt. We told G and my cousin's boys, Lucas and Aiden, to put their arms around each other for a picture. Grayson put his arms around...himself. Haha!
There we go...a little better...except that now he's got Lucas in a headlock. Hmmm...we'll have to work on posing for pictures.
Dad telling the littles to go hunt for their eight eggs.
And they're off!
Filling his bucket.
Showing me his stash.
Checking out the treasure.
Grayson just wanted to start eating his candy right away. He was on quite the sugar high that day!
Posing with the eggs.
Grayson asked to have his picture taken with the eggs too.
Such a fun day! He is risen! He is risen indeed!
