It is hard to believe that half a year has already passed since Makenna was born. Time has flown by, but I also could not imagine life without her. She has changed so much over this last month. It has been such a joy to be her Mommy.
I've been working on getting her to sleep more. Oh sleep. How I've missed you...
I started first with doing sleep training to get her to fall asleep on her own a little better. Then I moved to getting her to sleep through the 1am feeding. She dropped it pretty easily, but still woke up needing to be soothed until this last week. Next up is dropping the 4 am feeding. She really seems to be enjoying sleeping on her stomach too.
We had to take a break from sleep training because she has been sick. First she got a cold and had lots of wheezing which was either a lingering condition from the rsv she had last month, or she has asthma. I guess eczema and asthma are related, and she has eczema all over her chest and tummy. We'll have to watch it to see how things progress. The cold ended up giving her her first ear infection. She showed no signs of an ear infection. I took her into the doctor for her wheezing, and the doctor said she had a pretty bad ear infection in one ear. She's a tough girl! Adam and I always say that she's going to be tough since Grayson is such a wild child with her. She loved the medicine for the ear infection. The first sweet thing she ever tasted. Now she's healed and doing really well.
She is a growing girl! She's in the 99% for her height and 77% for weight. She's wearing mostly 6 month clothes and some 6-9 month things. She's wearing size 3 diapers.
Makenna has been loving trying new foods. I started with rice cereal and have slowly been adding new fruits and veggies. She sits at the table with us for dinner and shows down on her own food. It's so much fun to have the full family at the dinner table together. She's had a little trouble filling her diapers regularly since she's been on solid foods. Only a parent can understand being truly excited about a bowel movement. Ha! Luckily the girl loves prunes, so that seems to be helping. :)
She's rolling over and just barely starting to want to try to sit up. She'll kind of hover in a sitting position before falling over or doing a face plant. She loves playing with her toys and doing tummy time. Her current favorite toys are a crinkle book and a dragonfly. She also loves to play with balls, but she can't hold onto them for very long.
She still adores her brother, and he adores her. They will just "talk" and play and giggle the day away. If Grayson is in the room, then Makenna is watching him.
My favorite time of the day with her is in the early morning. She wakes up before Grayson, so I have been feeding her and then doing tummy time with her in front of the fire (which she LOVES to watch). It's so special to have that one on one time with her. She hangs out for about an hour, and then goes down for her first nap right about when G is getting up for the day (he is a very late sleeper!). Then I get to have my one on one time with Grayson over breakfast. It has been a great routine, and I hope it lasts for awhile.
I think Makenna's favorite time of day is when Adam gets home from work. The second she hears his voice she is craning her neck to see him, smiles and rocking her body back and forth with excitement. She seriously gets so excited. At dinner she'll just stare at him. The girl loves the boys in her life!
